OldOllie: Thanks, Ollie. The back of my brain was working on the problem as soon as I posted my comment, and it told me they were likely geared/linked so that they would turn but still stay in the same positions relative to each other - which is what you're saying! I`d still like a close-up look at the mechanism as I think it would be almost as interesting as the main elements.

Pretty and neat but the pattern is too static for me. I'd probably loose interest in about a day.
