@chicagojay, If some idiot wants to get past, I usually let them go. It is tempting to block the arseholes out, but If my kid was in the ambulance 20 cars back, (that you can't see and don`t know about), with a life-threatening condition, I`d be tempted to pull the smug `If I can`t get through,no-one else can`, bastard out of his merc and express extreme disquiet.

When I lived in Denver I worked for a utility contractor that does gas, electric, catv & phone work. The company trucks we drove (and took home every night) had all the flashing beacon lights & strobes on them so whenever there was a bad traffic jam on I-70 through downtown Denver I'd turn all the lights on and cruise down the shoulder pretending to be working. I only got pulled over once when I was on a utility pole inspection job so I pulled the map of the area up on my computer before the cop got to the truck and when he asked what I was doing I showed him the map and told him I was "driving the route I had for tomorrow so I was still on the clock, not illegally driving on the shoulder" and he fell for it!
