Yup- Lordjim- and if I recollect in the UK, it is tied to the liturgical calender being the 4th Sunday in Lent- a moveable feast.

Mother's Day (or Mothering Sunday)in the UK goes back to the 16th century. It was a church tradition (fourth Sunday in Lent) which allowed apprentices and servants a chance to visit their mums.

It declined in the 19th century and then absorbed some of the American aspects post WW2 as merchants saw a chance of profit.

The stifling matriarchal influence in Ms Anna Jarvis is strong.

I bet that she got pissed off with her friends when they didn't `play the game right` as a girl.
