I think it's also important here to recognize the difference between a Power of Attorney and an Advanced Medical Directive.
Power of Attorney does *not* give you any medical or advocacy rights... in this case, the family would have control as blood relatives.
An Advance Medical Directive on the other hand is used to name a health care advocate and specifies your wishes - including that a lover/partner/best friend, etc. can visit you in any sort of medical environment you wish. Interestingly, you can also specify who is not allowed, including blood relatives and if you wish them to have no rights to medical decisions.
Beyond that - the hospitals "update" statement is full of crap - it says he was asked to leave for being disruptive only... but he didn`t become disruptive until he was asked to leave. As usual, trying to scurry away from gay prejudice.

smagboy who said anything about discrimination or hate? Oh because I said I can't take gay marriage seriously must mean that?
Yes, I have yet to meet a gay couple that have been together their entire lives since being teenagers. In person or otherwise. If you know of any, I`d love to hear about it. You don`t even want to hear what a gay person I talked to about this said. So me not being able to take it seriously is only because gay people don`t take their relationships seriously, that is somehow my fault. ridiculous.
