I live in Christchurch New Zealand, we went through a 7.0 quake not long before the Japan one. All the land around my area is really sandy (I live near the beach) and our whole street was covered in silty water half up your shins

@davymid: Excellent explanation! I kinda sorta knew that stuff, but had no way of saying it coherently like you did!

I'm so glad I live on the Canadian Shield!

No earthquakes for 800 miles!
*mwa! mwaa!*

Also unrelated: I have "spell check" on my IE now! It`s amazing how many typos and spelling errors I make...

Madduck my love, I'd stay put. If there`s a goddam earthquake going on, and you`re outdoors, you`re already in the best place. Worse that`s going to happen from this particular earthquake-related thing (soil liquefaction) is that your socks are going to get dirty. I`d be more shatting my pants about a potential tsunami about 5 minutes out. So after this, run inland, in your dirty socks.

It looks like the H-Man monster. (Hard to find 1960's Japanese Sci-Fi flick.)
