Blaming humans alone for the passenger pigeon's extinction was debunked by someone a while back. He calculated the amount of lead shot necessary to bring them all down and figured that in some areas, you`d be walking on a carpet of the stuff. Also, at some point, the passenger would be down to the level of other similar pigeons which have survived to this day - why would the passenger alone go extinct? I skim-read the piece in a doctor`s office or something and don`t have the article at hand. Anyone recognize what I`m talking about?
