Most jumpers still do. Most of the footage in this video is pretty old. Some of it might actually be the reason most jumpers now have the drogue chute in hand.

I notice that unlike in the first base jumps I saw, in which the jumper held a small drogue chute to quickly pull out the main, current jumpers seem to have regular skydiving rigs. What's the deal?
