For all those criticizing this video, I'll usually drop a ball of tinfoil in a puddle of gasoline and then lie down next to it and make a call while my gas is pumping. I thought everyone did. I, for one, am glad I got to see it before blowing myself up!
Just kidding, we aren`t allowed to pump our own gas in Oregon.

It's not the phone that caused that, it`s the foil. By holding the phone up close, the foil is attenuating some of the signal the phone is sending/receiving. These signals generate a small amount of voltage in the ball and if you have two contact points the right distance apart and are different voltages you get a spark.
