@MeGrendel. Your opinion blows. Do you have any idea how badly that would skew justice in the interests of large organizations who can afford expensive lawyers?

I agree that the huge claims are a problem.
But the best way (in my opinion) to halt frivolous litigation is simple: 'Loser Pays`.
As it is now, anyone can sue any person/business for the price of filing the initial lawsuit, which is less than $100 in most places.
So technically, I could sue GE for $16million because they sold be a defective can opener that cut my finger. GE would have to have defend itself with lawyers and time while I represented myself.
More than likely, I`d lose, and I`m out the $75 filing fee, but GE would be out hundreds of thousands.
NOW, if I were to know that if I lost I`d have to pay court costs, GE`s costs, etc, I`d be less likely to file frivolously.
