People that just can't stand thinking that there is nothing after death, or are afraid of death. Also, it helps answer the unknown. A long time ago when there was a whole lot of unknown, it made a lot more sense to just say "God did it!!"

Much like a gun is neither evil nor good, it`s the people that use the item with ill intentions that create the evil. One example I`ll give is the countless hours the Knights of Colubus Council I belong to have given to raise money for charity. We support all kinds of groups that help and defend the defenseless, like Special Olympics, More to the point, since none of us knows what happens to that which animates us after we die, then what`s the downside to believing in life after death? Why not live a good life in preparation for that? Don`t condemn the the entirety of religion based on the poor decisions of a small percentage.
