Edana it's a demonstration of sophisticated real time calculation and reaction to physical phenomenon. The practical application of this technology are not limited to throwing and catching things, but just in that area... imagine fire departments deploying larger versions of these to catch people jumping out of burning buildings, or industrial facility where a widget is thrown in a general direction and these things neatly stack or shelve them, manufacturing facility where these throw and catch orienting items for the next point in the process, receiving air drops for the military, or missile defense systems, etc. there are lots of applications.
