@SpermNinja: Yes, guns were used, and plenty of them! But I've read that a lot, perhaps even the majority, of people were killed by machette.
The mass-killing got worst when average people started hacking their neighbors to death: the armed groups on both sides were bad, but the sheer number of people running amuk was unimaginable. Apparently, everyone in Rwanda owns a machette...

There were definitely firearms used in the Rwandan genocide. I imagine it might make murdering people with a machete a bit easier knowing that you had guys with AK47's watching your back.

@madduck: "Seems to be" is the key! Americans are not all identical, eh? There's a big difference between urban/rural, and guns is one of those. Who owns more guns per capita? Rural Who gets shot more? Urban! % ownership of guns has nothing to do with % of being killed by one. Look at Chicago!
A Black, city dweller in a city WITH strict gun laws is 4X more likely to be killed with a gun than a white counrty dweller with LAX gun laws.
#1 In the USA: More gun laws has always lead to MORE gun crimes, every single time!
In Virginia the number of guns (especially in white parts of cities) has almost doubled in the past 10 years! The result? A DROP in overall gun crimes. #2 In the USA: More LEGALLY OWNED guns has NEVER lead to more crime.
AS for mass shootings? Norway, UK, Germany and France have them too.
