It wasn`t thought necessary. Now it`s far too much of a political issue for any action to be taken (unless the USA is successfully conquered by settlement and Spanish becomes the official language as a result). Someone put up a standard school park sign in a public park by mistake. It`s only an issue because some people can use it as a political tool to either help the conquest or gain power/publicity/money for themselves directly.

Not allowed to have outdoor English signs, even for safety notices, and indoor signs require French to be twice the size of English.
