I think a few people here seemed to miss the point completely. Take a wider view, you might be surprised what you discover when you open your mind a little.

So his main argument against recycling is that it destroys art?

The problem is that most of his examples of creative reuse involved the destruction of building and temples. Also, plastic water bottles aren't art.
