>Sminky Hate to tell you this, but I think you got the runt of the litter. My parents have had volvos of varying degrees of modernity, and the only faults we had were an electrical fault (from the factory) and frozen washer fluid (obviously not the car's fault).

you most certainly can kill a volvo. 2001 volvo s80, ECP destroyed in the winter of '10, -15 deg temperatures fried it all.

Another good example of the point RuralNinja made would be custom-built racing cars, e.g. F1 cars. Flimsy-looking cars that are destroyed in any crash that's much more than a bump...and you have a good chance of getting out and walking away after a 100+mph crash in part *because* the car was destroyed - its destruction reduced the force of impact and extended the duration of the deceleration, both of which are crucial factors in what happens to the driver.
