They took out Emma's T cells. They then inserted new genetic material into these T cells using an altered HIV virus...altered in a way that the HIV directs the T cells to attack bad B cells as opposed to HIV that normally just kills your T cells (for the most part). These altered T cells were put back in Emma, which attack the bad (and good) B cells caused by her type of leukemia. There is no HIV present in her body whatsoever.

You should read about Coley's Toxins one time. There`s so much potential in so many avenues of cancer research that just seem to have been forgotten about when catch-all ubiquitous approaches like radiation came along. These days a lot of people think the `cure` is the same thing as the disease itself: they think losing your hair and feeling nautious are symptoms of the condition rather than of its conventional `cure`.
