A Christmas Billboard In Times Square, NYC [Pic]. Bold statement, but why not just let people celebrate what they want to celebrate?

Dammit, people, why can't we just leave them alone and let them have their fantasies? I`ll absolutely take up arms any time they try to push it into my life (particularly via government.) But if that`s what they want to believe privately, who gives a flying duck?

cityncolour: There is plenty of anecdotal evidence that Christmas was indeed an important holiday to early Americans.

whodat: The Puritans were a non-celebratory lot to begin with, very dour and strict. But your evidence that they had banned it, shows that it was being celebrated before they banned it. (otherwise there would be nothing to ban, would there?) Also, the federal government was much more limited in scope before the civil war and there were no 'federal holidays` until the 1870s.

But ironically, only ONE man in the billboard actually existed in real life.

And that would be Saint Nicholas. He was a Roman Catholic Bishop who was born in 280 BC, in what is now present day Turkey.
