I simply said that Abbas was working on achieving a peaceful solution. @FP: Yes, and? I replied: The PLO (and it's sub-groups) are ALWAYS happy to "talk" but never actually DO anything! Fatah isn`t even IN Gaza, how would diplomacy with them help the situation there? That assumes Abbas actually agreed to anything, not likely! With Arabic Leaders fully supporing Hamas`s terrorism? Any deal Fatah reached with Israel would be considered "weakness" by the ones who are causing the trouble. It would NOT get them to lay down their arms...
Yes, your link shows him talking, and talking, and talking... "On 25 May, Abbas gave Hamas a ten-day deadline to accept the 1967 ceasefire lines." (from your link) And spouting rhetoric he KNOWS will NEVER be accepted... some "diplomat" he is!

@5Cats: Good lord. You really enjoy putting words in my mouth. I never made any claims to the contrary. I simply said that Abbas was working on achieving a peaceful solution. I never said Fatah didn't engage in attacks. Did you even read the quote I supplied from Efraim Sneh?
The USA has made the same mistake many times. Most recently, we did it with Iran after 9/11. Iran`s more moderate leadership was helping us against the Taliban in Afghanistan. They provided us with information on Taliban locations, which we used. When Iran asked to sit down with us for talks, the Bush administration completely snubbed them. So what happened? The moderates lost the election because their tactics didn`t work, and the hardline Ahmadinejad was swept into power. We missed our chance.

@FP: Your "revisionist history" needs a good reality check. Fatah used to run Gaza, but the terror attacks, rockets and such STILL went on! The reason Fatah has (more or less) stopped terror attacks is: Hamas gets all the Arabic funding now. In 2006 Fatah was every bit as militant and bloodthirsty as any other PLO member group. Sure their leader talked nice, but since he didn't speak for the majority? What good is that?
Arafat ALWAYS came to "talk peace"... while his own people were murdering civilians! Israel`s or their own, it didn`t matter.

Do not side with those who use children for PR shields they have no honor. Hamas doesn't want land they want to wipe jewish people off the planet.
@piperfawn You never did tell me your feelings about Jewish people. Thoughts?

OldOllie "...and by 'permanent truce` we mean that we get to lob hundreds of missiles into your neighborhoods, and you get to shut the f*** up and take it!"
