@chance13 technically samhain is a festival for the dead. Great feasts were just a part since the spirits were said to have huge appetites and in mythology people believed that if they were to follow suit, they wouldnt be harmed by the fairies and the dead coming through the sidhe.

Samuin had nothing to do with evil or with dressing up...it was a pagan feasting holiday. The costumes come from a Catholic tradition called 'souling`. Children would dress like the spirits of the deceased and go from house to house asking for cakes in exchange for prayers for the deceased. So, before we all start a pointless argument, maybe a little research...
