american politics are a sham. and until the voting system and the system gets it's poo straight I will keep my vote to myself. Probably not doing anybody any good. But oh well

Is that any worse than every election being decided by a handful of states? Surely its better for every persons vote to be equal, no matter where you live? Why should the place you live make your vote actually worth something? If its a popular vote, then literally every vote counts, whereas at the moment, most of your population (well, the ones that actually bother to vote!) have little impact. Its no wonder your turnout is so appallingly low.
Your system doesnt make sense. Lets say you have 4 states. Each has a population of 10 million. Each one gets 10 of your college vote thingys. Lets pretend Obama wins 3 states and gets 51% of the votes in each state. Romney wins the other one and gets 99% of the votes. Overall Romney would have far more individual votes, but Obama would get 30 college votes to 10. How is that fair?
