Remember That Obama`s A Muslim Church Sign?

I-A-B posted a church sign from The Church In The Valley in Texas this weekend. Guess who might lose tax-exempt status.

patchgrabber: I have no problem with anyone engaging in politics, so long as they aren't advocating the overthrow of our democracy.

@CJ: So it's ok for a church to engage in politics then? Or are you merely stating that in point of fact?

The tax-exempt status of a church has been revoked by the IRS only once for engaging in overtly political activity, and that revocation was merely temporary.

It's clear that the IRS doesn`t want to be the `speech police`, as the only time it`s taken away the tax exempt status of a church it was very unpopular.

I could find one case where this action was taken against a church, way back in 1995. This rule has never been brought before the Supreme Court.

Groups have even tried to provoke the IRS into this action again, every year since 2008, and the IRS hasn`t responded.
