Don't even go there, we`ve had Christmas stuff out since August, just a little at a time, late August but still, it had been in the back for longer than that, now we`re already shrinking the fall items to bring in more christmas, as soon as halloween is over it will be holiday music...

Go into any Hallmark in July and you will see the first set of Christmas "Keepsake Ornaments". With two more release dates through the rest of the year.
I worked in one for 3 years, and every year I would see many people spend lots of money on these things, sometimes in the $300 range. It's very sad.

I have an easy solution - don't care about Christmas. Works fine for me. The only inconvenience from my point of view is that sometimes Christmas stock displaces other products that I want to buy.
There`s some amusement to be had in the ongoing parallel between Christmas and Saturnalia, the ancient Roman event that (along with the Feast of the Invincible Sun) was replaced by Christmas when Christianity conquered the Roman empire. Which was almost certainly why Christian made up Christmas in the first place - it`s often easier to overwrite than to delete. Anyway, the parallel continues - Saturnalia was originally a religious day but became a much longer secular and commercial event, which some Romans made the same complaints about. Although I don`t think it ever went as far as 3 months!
