I win lottery tickets ALL the time. Obviously the statistic refers to winning the big prizes. If all you're talking about is winning 2 dollars on a 1 dollar scratch ticket, your chances are pretty damn high.

the odds of winning on the powerball lottery in the US are approx 1 in 32. So I think this person might be a little bit mistaken.

Shhhhhhhh! The more the idiots play the lottery, the less I have to pay in taxes.
If a bookie was caught skimming 55% of his handle, he be tarred and feathered and run out of town, and yet no one seems to have a problem with this if the bookie is the government. Even worse, if you win, they take back 40% of the prize in taxes leaving a net payout of 27% of the handle. Why would I play that game when there are casinos down the road with slots that pay out 97%? (I don't play those, either.)
