Those kids were portrayed as upper crest military academy students. They would have been raised with morals. Their society broke down because there was no parental guidance. It had nothing to do with morals or church.

Morality is taught to us by our parents starting from the time we are toddlers. My parents raised my brother and I with very strong morals. Organized religion had nothing to do with it. By the time you get to church most of your morality has been set. But we didn`t go to church. Our morals came from the parents and maybe some from our teachers.

The old testament was history and prophecy of the 'Messiah`. Jesus fulfilled those prophecies and the new testament tells us of his life, words, sacrifice and new covenant with God through him. It`s not that Christians don`t believe in certain parts of the bible, it`s that we are no longer under the jurisdiction of mosaic law. Morality does not come from within, it is taught.
