Try to imagine your life without anything that was developed with help from medical experiments such as these. Many more human live would have been lost without the major advancements in medicine derived from these experiments.

Knowledge about how animal physiology works has to be gained through experimentation and cannot be divined with tea leaves. Also - Where do people imagine all the products they use come from? Products that many people need/want have to be developed and tested. Animals are generally used when there is any slight chance that this development/testing could be harmful or unpleasant. Furthermore - why are cats considered so much more deserving of sympathy than e.g. rats or mice? I personally like animals more than people but I do see the pragmatic reasons why animal experimentation takes place in most cases.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. How would this have *ever* passed ethics approval? One of my favourite things of working with algae and higher plants is that I never have to worry about ethics approval. Those panels are a nightmare to get by, and I for the life of me have no idea how this would get a stamp of approval from such a board.
