@Jamie, most times when people say stuff like "British American," I see it as they literally had to walk off a boat (or airplane) to get here. African American feels like they came from Africa, maybe within three or so generations, but truth is, it's like calling the descendants of the first settlers British American to me. Sure, they came from there, but then aren`t we all African in some form if you put it that way? Few thousand years. No biggie.

Irish-American, British-American German-American are all okay to say but when you say African-American or Mexican-American white people start yelling, "Why aren't you just American?!"
