After such an utterly boring, pretentious, and failed attempt at creating an opening ceremony that topped the Chinese; I'm sure bronze would be a welcome high.

The context for being upset all depends on what you expect, or what you went into the Olympics for. Many are expecting a top spot, anything less is disappointing, some want a medal, and some want to simply be there.
Let's be fair, being third in the entire world, is no mean feat. Put it another way, I believe there are around 1700 players in the NFL - Most sport loving kids in the USA I would assume would love to be a pro-footballer,or sportsplayer. Even in the lower echelons, the standard is extremely high. Most kids, will never reach that standard. Although, naturally as mentioned above, it all depends the reason you go into the Olympics.

"No, it's called being a sore looser. Crying about it is called being a bitch."
After four years of hard work I reckon its fair enough to be a bit emotional about missing the top spot. Its not like he just rolled up that afternoon and had a crack at it.
Anyway - we can let the trolling was on past - it was a good games. London and Team GB did an excellent job.
