My point is that I can think of 1000 better ways to spend ones money, than on a cat.

And honestly, why get butthurt about a veterinarian helping an animal? It's their job.
And all those who are saying this is a waste of money, What do you think is going on in this picture anyway? You think this is some iron man setup, because its not. It`s a plastic brace stitched to its chest with blue suturing, and wrapped with gauze to keep it in place and keep the kitten from gnawing on the sutures. The gauze will be replaced often no doubt, but cats grow fast, and this will probably only have to be worn for a month or two, when the brace will have helped the rib-cage grow into a more proper shape. That doesn`t seem like an awful lot of money or effort to help one kitten with an easily treatable condition.
And if you think it should have just been put to sleep or "thrown in a river"(which is a crime by the way), then you most likely are not a veterinarian, or ever will be one. So don`t worry yourself about what professionals are willing to do with their
