Unfortunately for the waitress, it's well documented that she received the money, so Uncle Sam will be sure to audit her if he doesn`t get his cut.

She`s only required to claim up to minimum wage. Say she makes $2.13/hr. She`s only required to claim $5.12/hr, technically.

When I delivered pizza, I never claimed poo because I made above minimum wage. IRS never said a thing.

She could always just say she passed it around to everyone who works there. It would be hard to prove who got what. I doubt the IRS will worry about $500 anyway. If you earn less than $600 from one source you don`t even have to claim it.
