@5cats: But the point of the Skinner Box was operant conditioning, whereas these people aren't likely to continue after they`ve received their reward, even if the reward were increased. This is more of a study in delayed gratification than a Skinner Box.

vv @patchy: Yup! Milgram was a pioneer! I does too resemble a Skinner Box, at least a little bit! Not all Boxes had shocker plates in them, eh? There's been a lot of variety over the decades...
It`s different in that the subjects know in advance what they have to do, and they`re free to leave, that`s true enough.
But it`s an experiment, it has a button to push and a reward if the task is completed...
