HalfPintRoo Female, 18-29, Eastern US 2031 Posts	Thursday, June 21, 2012 11:10:03 AM Can we all agree to stop teaching any core subjects in public schools for a few years and focus completely on character education (empathy, compassion, manners, etc.) Sure we'll have a dumb generation, but they will be kind to each other!! Then! We can go back to schooling THEIR kids who, hopefully, learned all the good behaviors from their parents, and then we will have both once again. Sort of like cleaning out and starting fresh...

A friend of mine was studying to become a teacher, specializing in chemistry. They had an assignment to do that they were being forced to apply to their classes that they were teaching to high school students. The assignment was to shoehorn aboriginal culture into their class/lab. My friend had to do this in her lab on titration. She had no idea how to inject that culture into a titration experiment. It was a ridiculous assignment and just one example of the idiotic methods teachers are being forced to use.

Self Esteem Political Correctness Environmentalism Liberal politics Minorities studies LBGTA agenda anti-US Military History The USA causes all the worlds problems past, present, and future. Teacher's are underpaid, must be appreciated. Self Esteem. The basics began to change starting in the 60`s.

They don't do long division by the same method taught when I was at primary school, for example. I`ve no opinion on whether the methods they use now are better or worse than the ones I was taught: they`re merely different ways of doing the same thing. I think they should just put Vi Hart in charge of all maths teaching for schools. Problem solved.
