I've always treated IAB as a useful index to the stuff on other sites without having to trawl through all their other poo. Not always true, but often is.

I became familiar with 4chan the winter before the Habbo raids started (winter 2004-2005). High degree of OC there then, and it didnt show up anywhere else. After Project Scientology, and the publicity it received, 4chan began to change (more newf*gs, summerf*gs, and cancer), and a lot of oldf*gs moved over to Reddit...the back-and-forth between 4chan and Reddit has been pretty common for at least four years. Since about 2010, the content/memes etc from these two sites have spread everywhere. 9gag childishly "claims" these memes, but nothing original comes from that immature place. Content usually gets posted on 4chan/Reddit first, and then spreads to others,,,,
