I realized the first part when I was pretty young, it is pretty intuitive if you ever thought about it. We're just one huge dysfunctional family.

The second part is a little less intuitive. First of all, don`t we make a tiny tiny tiny fraction of the mass of the earth? There`s a lot of atoms in the pool to draw from. Secondly, I wonder if they took into account the half lives of elements... some current atoms didn`t exist in the past and appeared as product of decay. Also, something like trillions tons of meteor matter deposits fresh atoms on earth every year. I`m not sure I buy the second part.

@Lord Jim an ancestral DNA test is very high on the list of things I want to waste some money on. I think I would learn some very interesting things about my dad's side of the family.
