yeh hobyandy i agree! Those countries still have thousands of millions to pay in debt, as our geog teacher said today there's no chance of them repaying that debt now, which we shouldn`t make them pay. And lots of people should care. From the area where i live (westcountry, england in other words) i think 4 people have been announced dead, it`s terrible. 1 english man went out there looking for his son, he found him dead and our government wouldnt even pay or help to get his body back in our country to be buried. The countries are never going to get on their feet, they never were, thanks to our countries.

i have to disagree with the two previous posts. the countries that were affected are pretty much in devastation. the death count is right under 1/4 million people. it's the worst natural disaster in recorded history. it`s gonna be a long time before the affected countries get back on their feet---and a little reminder that this is the "slow season" for news media...so i think we`ll be hearing about this for a while to come.

The question is, who cares? - Seriously, in a few weeks, it'll all be forgotten, all the money and support so gallantly "promised", I doubt they`ll even get 1/10th, and how much of that is actually going to go to the victims? At the moment, there are about +-37 active conflicts in the worlds, the Congo war has already claimed +- 3 millions of lives, but who ever complains or helps those victims? In the struck areas, the Western Tourists are getting a first class treatment, the other (native) people get nothing (or are treated as pigs).
The entire area is more or less leveled, but within a few days, the tourist infrastructure was back in action.
In a few weeks (at max.) there`ll be a new topic of interest, it`ll be forgotten, they`ll be miserable and poor. In short, life will be back to normal.
So go ahead and sob about "how bad" it is, it won`t help them much, if you really cared, you`d give all you could possibly give, but you don`t, so stop lamenting.

im gettin really bored with all this tsunami stuff, at first i was really interested and sad for all the people over there, but now all u ever hear about is the tsunami. people are all talkin about it and never talk about anythin else. yes its a big disaster and its a worth point of conversation for about a week or so but now its been ages and people still talk about it like its fresh news. im interested to hear about developments in the situation, but i cant be bothered listening to yet another survivor's story or having to hear the death toll again, and again, and again... Im not trying to be insensitive but id rather start hearing more local news again now because frankly, this disaster isnt going to affect me. I really do feel sorry for the victims of this disaster survivors and those who have lost their lives, but i dont want to have to hear about nothing else. As far as im concerned, knowing about the disaster and feeling for those affected should be the end of the news coverage
