@ Burton_Ian - they need to update their webpage then. Remember the fuferall when Bush lowered the poverty level so he could claim there were fewer poor people. Family of four earning $19,something is where it is now, I believe.

The official Bureau of Labor Statistics threshold for poverty is a joke... Many economists and sociologist agree that a poverty level for a family of four being $22,113 for a family of four and $11,344 is FAR too low (that is, if you were living alone and making $15k you wouldn't technically be in poverty, according to federal guidelines).
In response to this, many sociologist use a larger threshold, so the amount of persons who are within poverty would likely be larger than those in the 1960`s.
