Straps across a load of gravel ("ballast" in railroad terms) would not keep broken dumper sides up Those straps are at least 4" nylon webbing, which means they have a tensile strength of ~40,000 lbs. That's enough to lift 2 Kenworth semi tractors off the ground. I think they could hold that gate up just fine.

@ Shelworth Straps across a load of gravel ("ballast" in railroad terms) would not keep broken dumper sides up - at least not for very long. I think they're there because they occasionally load ties into those cars; someone was just weak on the concept.
