Living in California all my life, I've been in a number of quakes, including both the 1971 Sylmar Quake and the 1989 Loma Prieta quakes. It is absolutely amazing how long the Japanese quake lasted. That must have been terrifying to kids.

Japanese culture doesn't know the meaning of panic... This woman has clearly been in country long enough to have acquired this quality.

"If she went outside, many people were probably panicking, cars were going everywhere..."

Japanese people don't panic. If you remember the interviews of Americans that were there, a lot of them said they were surprised there was no panicking or looting. It`s a giant taboo for them.
