I don't think the Chinese have had the oppotunity to be horrible to the Japanese in recent history.
Yes, there have been some pretty horrible things done in China, the Cultural Revolution was grotesque, but Japanese attrocities were of a different order. Bad things happen in war but in WWII Germany and Japan took brutality towards non-combatants to a new level.
The movie is generally regarded as being very close to the facts. Entertainment? I dunno but it seems the director was not happy about letting by-gones be by-gones in the name of diplomacy.

It's a Chinese propaganda movie. But then the Japanese were complete SOBs during the war. You also bear in mind that the Chinese have been as bad before and since the war.

LordJim - in what context would it not be messed up? If it's an historically accurate account, like some of the holocust movies. But if that stuff is just for visual entertainment from the warped imagination of the writer/director then yes it`s messed up.

Salo or the 120 days of sodom, Fred Vogel August Underground Mordum and Cutting Moments. Also, Guinea pig 2 (Very popular) there are a few more films can't think of right now but yeah, if you want to feel very uncomfortable while watching movies...yeah...
