"This is probably more of a publicity stunt than anything. But in hockey fights are allowed because injuring players is an encouraged and viable tactic. Certain members of a hockey team (usually the biggest) are labled 'enforces` and have the job of protecting their - and injuring enemy - key players." ... you kind of generalized fighting in hockey. As a Canadian, you should do better.

@madman: there is no way that this is a publicity stunt. As a life-long Devils fan, I can say with certainty that these two teams HATE each other. This was the Devils reaction to the Rangers starting their goon line when they played at the prudential center a month or so ago. In hockey, the away team (Devils) present the host team (Rangers) with their starting line-ups prior to the game. The Rangers responded with their goon squad. Playoff atmosphere hockey at its finest. GO DEVILS!

Looked like a scene from Slap Shot. For those that can't understand why fighting is allowed, it`s because they play a high speed full contact sport while CARRYING WEAPONS. It`s much better to have two guys square off face to face than have them use their sticks.
