If Peter Sellers can walk on water, then I think it's fair joke territory to get into, mkkk?

Old joke. Cute, but an old joke. Christian's, get over it, get a sense of humor. There was nothing insulting here, just an old joke.

The dad got on the radio to explain his side, which the newspaper utterly failed to do.

Undoubtedly the newspaper left out his side. Although I doubt it was because of an anti-christian bias, rather, newspapers are in the business of selling newspapers, so to compete in a world where people have an ever-decreasing attention span, the papers resort to inflammatory language, especially in their titles, because most people only graze the headlines and don't read the whole article. Sell them papers!
