As far as journalism goes 'sensationalism` is the least of it`s problems. Collusion and manipulation with authorities is running rampant.
There are no impartial journalists anymore and those that want exclusive interviews with famous people will collude and pander to their interviewees interests to get those interviews.

markust: Here are the standards of journalism: Truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness and public accountability
None of the current news outlets follow those 'standards` today. If you believe any do, you`ve been deceived.
When journalism students were polled in the 1990s about their motivation for wanting to be a journalist, the most common answer was "I want to change the world", which directly conflicts with objectivity. Other reasons given were "To get respect", "Travel the world", and "Get close to celebrities", all of which conflict with journalism `standards` in way or another.
Journalism should be just about reporting the news, not injecting opinion, but those days of objectivity are long gone and will never return.
Journalism has turned into a game of one-up-manship and what you can get away with saying, without getting into trouble.
