@Byfield
build a huge and cheap machine or a small and cheaper machine for making small complicated structures? hmm... do i want my medical prosthetic being made on site or far away at a more expensive machine and requiring shipping?

"Can it print a 3d printer?"

A Von Neumann Self-replicating machine will probably be developed very soon. Biology does it all the time. :)

Old vid, but still interesting. Thing is, what is needed is bigger and cheaper, not smaller! Unless he can get it to output layer by layer out of the machine and be limited only on 2 axis instead of 3. (4, depending on the material!)
