Making anti-gun laws will NOT deter the criminal who has his mind set on committing criminal acts - he will ALWAYS find a way to commit them. Now, take away the ability for people to defend themselves and you've got major problems.

Musuko42-"It was her alertness, not her gun, that saved the would-be victim in this scenario."
Sorry, but now you've gone straight from `ignorant` to `idiot`.
An `alert` woman trapped in a corner with gun has more options than an `alert` woman without.
Musuko42-"I find it hard to imagine a scenario where"
You have a hard time imagining any scenario that does not support your bias and ignronce.
There are scenarios where a gun will not be of any help.
There are scenariors where a gun will be.
A person comfortable with a gun has more options in the latter.
Just as I`m in hundreds of scenarios every day where I do not need a fire extinguisher. In fact, there is only once this year where I was happy to have one. But I have it available at all times. And the lady in the Civic with a fuel leak was very glad I did.

Musuko42-"I find it hard to imagine a scenario where the victim's chances are better off with both participants armed with weapons "
So, because `YOU` can`t see an upside IN THAT PARTICULAR scenario that you go to great pains to limit the circumstances to, she would NEVER find a gun handy?
Again, you demonstrate your ignorance (which is now bordering on stupidity).
What about a scenario where the woman is outnumbered, yet is able to defend herself. You know, LIKE THE LINK I PROVIDED? That is a perfect example AGAINST your position, but you still seem to think her raped and dead is a better outcome than letting her protect herself.
I find it hard to imagine a scenario where the victim's chances are better off with both participants armed with weapons capable of wounding and killing at range, than when neither are thus armed.
If you have a situation where it is easy for the victim to arm themselves thusly, the attacker is also able to easily arm themselves in the same way.
"But she MAY have it out and ready for the rapist she notices following her down the hall to her apartment door."
It was her alertness, not her gun, that saved the would-be victim in this scenario. If the gun were not available to her, she would have had other actions open to her, thanks to that alertness.
In the link you provided, it doesn`t mention the attackers having guns. Do you think she would still be the victor in that event if they had a gun to her head? What stopped the criminals being armed? Gun ownership restrictions maybe? Do we know?
