I really don't know why the Japanese seem to love that word so much. When I was there it was all over shirts, signs like these, and other places. I realize most Japanese don`t know the meaning, so then I wonder...do they find the sound of it or shape of the letters to be appealing? I am honestly curious.

I`ve read that it`s a translation error stemming from simplification of characters in written Chinese and Japanese. A character may have different meanings, sometimes very different. If it`s translated to English by a person who knows English well enough, that`s not a problem. If translated by a person who doesn`t, or by a program, it is a problem.

Its legit. LoL. One of my friends saw it first hand. However, it really isn't all over the place like Yugure below says. Sorry to burst your bubble on the follies of my people. (Though if you go far enough in the boondocks, you might probably see some weird shirts)
