Oh come on, religion is generally a good thing. It gives people community, supports most of the charity work in the world, and it helps people to cope in situations of extreme stress. Atheism (silly term because atheism isn't really a belief) does not provide for these needs. That is why I go to the catholic soup kitchen to volunteer. I am an atheist, but I like religion, I see some value in it.

"Zeegrr60, you're right, getting rid of G-d is easy. It`s the resultant death, destruction, poverty, hopelessness and general Hell on Earth that results from athiests running the place that`s very, very hard to deal with."
Sometimes the comments are so much more entertaining than the original post ... * chuckle *
It's much better living in a world where bronze age fairy tales dictate the morality of countless individuals who are willing to abuse, murder, hate and discriminate in the name of their religion.
Genocide, sexual discrimination, racial discrimination, war, torture, "terrorism", child abuse, etc... - these things are hell on earth. How many atrocities throughout human civilization could have been avoided if people weren`t so keen on following an invisible man in the sky that promised eternal happiness to his believers? How many atrocities are still committed daily?
Religion isn`t the cause of every negative act in the world, but it certainly does, in the words of Hitchens himself, poison everything.
