Seriously though, as long as people produce electric cars with 6 figure price tags, who's going to buy them except rich people? What about the other 99%? I drive a decade old Ford Explorer that gets 17 mpg, because that`s what I can afford (my wife has a newer Chevrolet Equinox that I`m paying on). Even a great idea like the Chevrolet Volt - a vehicle that can run solely on electric power for up to 40 miles, before switching over to a gas-powered generator that then in turn powers the electric motor - has been hampered by it`s $40k price tag, and that`s cheap compared to some of the other vehicles they`ve tried to introduce. With gas at $3/gal and a tenth of the country out of work, who can afford $100K for a car? Most of us do well to pay RENT.
