His Price Waterhouse accountants set up illegitimate tax havens for him and the IRS ultimately caught up with him to the tune of (IIRC) $35 million. He didn't have the money to pay up, but his attorney negotiated a settlement for a substantial discount. Willie was unable or unwilling to pay the negotiated settlement amount, however - and he then had to release a double compilation album with all proceeds going to pay his tax bill. He has been arrested (four times?) for marijuana possession, however. He`s always been a liberal activist; it`s one of the traits of his public persona.
