in the end, the whole concept of "is it rude" comes down to your own opinion. so if you don't think it`s rude, and it doesn`t violate someone`s personal space, like bumping into or shoving someone, it isn`t. now if that person thinks something is rude, it`s their own fault because of their ignorance preventing them from realizing the opinion aspect of it, or the fact that society`s opinion is not the golden law, or their acceptance of your opinion not being on par with their`s.

I still instantly turn into a child and giggle like a little girl whenever someone farts out loud. Farting always lightens the mood, so I say no it's not rude at all.

My uncle told me stories where he would take his wife and as they got into bed, pull the covers over them and hold them tight. And he would fart, pretty much gassing his wife, and she couldn't get out from under the covers. He would laugh, she would cry.
