These guys spend rediculous amounts of money making sure that all the parts of their bikes are featherlight to shave fractions of a second off of their time
That isn't true any more. There`s a minimum bike weight in competition and nowadays you can easily buy a bike of that weight off the shelf for less than ridiculous amounts of money. In fact, you can buy the very same bikes they use. There is a lot of money put into bike design at the high end, but it`s not about weight any more. Bike makers could easily go well under the weight limit. It`s more about efficiency of movement. Aerodynamics, friction, riding position, stiffness...it`s mainly about translating rider effort into movement as efficiently as possible while maintaining at least a tolerable level of rider comfort.
