Then again if the federal and state govts were to stop recognizing marriages altogether EVERYONE would be angry.

and again, my whole point is that marriage and government should be separate.


That'd be fine, allow a person himself to determine who can inherit his/her belongings and who has visitation rights when they become ill/seriously injured.
